Seth Meyers Shares Dramatic Story of Son’s Birth in Apartment Lobby

Seth Meyers’ newborn baby boy, Axel Strahl, was in such a rush to be born that he did it in the “Late Night” host’s apartment lobby.

“My wife is saying the baby is coming, the baby is out,” Meyers said, sharing the dramatic birth story on Monday’s episode of his NBC talk show.

“And I looked at my wife and the only way I can describe how my wife looked was she looked like someone who was hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants,” he joked. “It was like somebody was trying to sneak a baby on a plane.”

The birth progressed so quickly that Meyers and his wife, Alexi Ashe, who are already parents to a 2-year-old son named Ashe, didn’t have time to board the Uber standing by to take them to the hospital.

En route to the car, his wife had to undress and lie down in the lobby and “the baby was just out, the head of the baby was out,” he said.

“This is how fast it happened: I called 911 and over the course of a minute conversation, I basically said, ‘We’re about to have a baby. We’re having a baby. We had a baby,’” Meyers said. “I went from someone calling in about an emergency to just sharing good news with a stranger.”

The host got choked up explaining the meaning behind his second-born’s name and how his wife immediately put the baby on her chest. Emergency medical personnel arrived soon after and a firefighter cut the umbilical cord.

People on social media congratulated the couple on their new addition and couldn’t help but marvel at the birth story, with one user tweeting, “@sethmeyers you had me weeping with joy tonight. Congratulations to you and your growing family. Welcome Axel. A beautiful story to erase all the bad news from my head.”

Another tweeted, “@sethmeyers Congratulations on your Baby Boy, Axel!!  Man, I really enjoyed your story of the delivery! You’re a good man Seth! #TearsOfJoy #ItsABeautifulThing #LateNight #SethMyers.”

Meyers announced he and his wife were expecting their second child on his show in November. The couple welcomed son Ashe in March 2016.

“A couple years ago on this show, we announced that we were having Ashe and so I wanna take this opportunity now … my wife and I are expecting a second baby,” Meyers said.
