27 More Women Accuse Charlie Rose of Sexual Harassment

Nearly six months after Charlie Rose was fired from CBS for sexual harassment allegations, a new batch of claims has risen against the disgraced newsman. An additional 27 women—14 of whom were CBS News employees, 13 of whom worked with him in other capacities—have accused Rose of sexual harassment in a new report from The Washington Post. The Post also reports that concerns about Rose’s alleged behavior were apparently flagged at the network as early as 1986 and as recently as April 2017. Rose, at the time, was a co-host of CBS This Morning and a contributor to 60 Minutes. He also had an eponymous talk show on PBS, but has since been replaced with Christiane Amanpour.

In response to the allegations, Rose sent the following statement to the Post: “Your story is unfair and inaccurate.” At the time of the initial allegations, Rose issued an apology, but denied the accuracy of certain claims. “I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken,” he said in November.

The Post interviewed 107 people over the course of five months. The earliest claim it found was from a woman named Joana Matthias, who worked with Rose at NBC News in 1976 and said he exposed his penis and touched her breasts at their bureau. “This other personality would come through, and the groping would happen,” she said. Another early allegation came from a woman named Annmarie Parr. In 1986, she was a 22-year-old clerk who was tasked with delivering a script to Rose. She told the Post that he had previously made “lewd, little comments” about her appearance, but said on that day he escalated things by allegedly asking, “Annmarie, do you like sex? Do you enjoy it? How often do you like to have sex?’”

Another woman, Beth Homan-Ross who worked with Rose as an assistant producer, claimed that when she went to Rose’s house to deliver materials for work, he would sometimes open the door naked, holding a towel. At least twice, she said, he would ask her to come into the bathroom while he was showering. She told the Post she would decline and wait outside. “It was a sexual land mine everywhere you stepped,” she said of the work environment.
