NBC LogoNBC, moving forward with a new comic-book inspired comedy.  The peacock network has given a series order to DC COMICS’ POWERLESS, with Vanessa Hudgens set to star.  The program is described as a workplace comedy that follows a spunky young insurance adjuster specializing in coverage against damage caused by crime-fighting superheroes.

A financial TV anchor and his producer are thrust into an extreme situation when an investor who’s lost everything forcefully takes over their studio at gunpoint.  Throughout the standoff…broadcast live to millions, the three begin to unravel the mystery behind a conspiracy at the heart of today’s high-tech global markets.  From director Jodie Foster, George Clooney stars in the thriller MONEY MONSTER.

Thursday, 5.12.16

Oscar winners Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones, teaming up in a new action comedy.  According to the Hollywood Reporter the movie VILLA CAPRI, centers on a retired FBI agent and a former mob lawyer turned snitch who’s now in the witness protection program. The two are also a couple of cranky neighbors don’t exactly get along.  That is until the mob shows up, both of them have to put aside their differences and go on the run. Filming in New Mexico could begin this summer.

Set in the 1790’s, a beautiful young widow takes up temporary residence at her in-laws’ estate.  While there, she plays matchmaker for her reluctant daughter and finds romance for herself in the process.  Based on the Jane Austen novel LADY SUSAN, Kate Beckinsale stars in the dramedy LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP.

Costarring Chloe Sevigny (seh-vin-ee), LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP opens in limited release 5.13.

Wednesday, 5.11.16

Bryan Cranston, returning to television in the new sci-fi anthology series ELECTRIC DREAMS, based on the works of author Philip K. Dick, who wrote BLADE RUNNER and TOTAL RECALL.  Cranston… a five-time Emmy winner will executive produce and appear in the show, which will debut in the UK and will be distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Television.

It’s an imagined chapter from the forty days Jesus spent fasting and praying in the desert.  After weeks of surviving only on water, the holy figure struggles with the Devil…over the fate of an ordinary family in crisis.  Ewan McGregor stars in the drama LAST DAYS IN THE DESERT.

Costarring Ciaran Hinds, LAST DAYS IN THE DESERT opens in limited release on 5.13.

Tuesday, 5.10.16

NETFLIX, diving into reality competition with a new series from Sylvester Stallone.  It’s called ULTIMATE BEASTMASTER, a show which will pit competitors from six different countries against each other in a brutal obstacle course, THAT WINDS UP WITH one overall series winner.  Stallone will produce the program and make regular appearances, but no word yet on when the series will debut.BeastmasterLogo

DVD Tuesday – Robert De Niro plays grandfather to Zac Efron in the raunchy comedy DIRTY GRANDPA, out today on BluRay and DVD.  Also, Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson in the crime drama REGRESSION and Ryan Reynolds portrays a wise-cracking super hero in the comic book inspired movie DEADPOOL.

Also out – Michael Moore’s latest documentary, WHERE TO INVADE NEXT.

Monday, 5.9.16

Michael Shannon, in talks to join Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming supernatural romance movie.  The film WHICH IS still untitled reportedly follows a mute laboratory worker in 1963 who falls in love with an amphibious man held captive in her lab.  Sally Hawkins, Richard Jenkins and Octavia Spencer are already set to costar in the film.

Set in the not-to-distant future, a new law of the land takes all of the single people and transfers them to a creepy hotel.  While there, they NEED to find a romantic partner within forty-five days, or be transformed into animals and set off into the woods.  Colin Farrell stars in the romantic sci-fi dramedy THE LOBSTER.

Costarring Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz, THE LOBSTER opens in limited release 5.13.
