Friday, 6.3

The video game just came out in March, AND now after explosive sales, TOM CLANCY’S THE DIVISION is getting the movie treatment.Division  According to Variety, Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in and produce the film.  Game developer Ubisoft will reportedly package the project…before it’s shopped to the big studios. Set in New York…the game focuses the aftermath of A deadly virus outbreak.

PopstarHe’s a pop and rap superstar trying to break out on his own after finding success as a member of a boyband.  But when Conner4Real’s solo album fails to produce any sales he tries to do anything in his power to maintain his celebrity status.  Andy Samberg stars in the comedy POPSTAR: NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING.

Costarring Maya Rudolph and Bill Hader, POPSTAR: NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING opened Friday, 6.3.

Thursday, 6.2

DISNEY, gearing up to make a sequel to its 1964 musical classic MARY POPPINS.  Emily Blunt will step into the role of the magical nanny made famous in the original by Julie Andrews, while the Broadway creator and star of HAMILTON Lin-Manuel Miranda will costar in the film.  Titled MARY POPPINS RETURNS, the movie is slated to premiere on Christmas of 2018.

She’s a headstrong woman from a small town that seems to have it all figured out.  But when Lou loses her job, she’s forced to become caregiver to a recently paralyzed man, and the two form an unlikely bond that will change them both forever.  Emilia Clark stars in the romantic drama ME BEFORE YOU.

Costarring Sam Claflin, ME BEFORE YOU opened Friday, 6.3.

Wednesday, 6.1

Looks like 20th Century FOX is moving forward with its big screen musical remake of GUYS AND DOLLS.  According to Deadline The studio has hired the Tony Award Winning British stage director Michael Grandage to helm the movie.  The original long running production debuted on Broadway in 1950 and went on to inspire a film version in 1955 which STARRED Marlin Brando and Frank Sinatra.

It’s a sequel to the 2014 hit about four mutant turtle warriors who secretly protect New York.  But this time around, all sorts of new threats emerge when a mad scientist, played by Tyler Perry, figures out the secret to their mutation.  Perry says joining the franchise is a dream come true for him as he co-stars in TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADDOWS.

With a cast that includes Megan Fox, and Will Arnett, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADDOWS, hit theaters on Friday, 6.3.

Tuesday, 5.31

Dwayne Johnson set to star as what may have been the world’s first superhero in an upcoming movie from IRON MAN 3 director Shane Black.  The action star has signed on to play DOC SAVAGE, the hero with superhuman strength, senses and intellect. Savage first debuted in 1933 before moving on to the worlds of radio drama, comic books and movies.  Sony Pictures has been developing the project but has yet to announce a release date.docsavage

DVD Tuesday – Five sisters in 19th century England cope with the pressures to marry while protecting themselves from the walking dead in the horror flick PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES.  And Stephan James plays Olympic track legend Jesse Owens alongside Jason Sudeikis in the inspirational drama RACE.

Also out – Gerard Butler stars in the fantasy adventure GODS OF EGYPT.

Monday, 5.30

Shout Factory and Legacy Classics, teaming up to make a trio of animated movies based on THE BOXCAR CHILDREN.  The popular kid’s book series created by Gertrude Chandler Warner follows four orphaned youngsters living in an abandoned boxcar who solve mysteries.  The first movie in the series is set to come out next year.

A group of friends on a weekend getaway get more than they bargain for when a mysterious nightclub owner introduces them to a new designer drug that strips the buddies of their inhibitions.  But what starts out as a night of fun and partying quickly turns deadly as the island paradise deteriorates into a tropical madhouse.  Pierce Brosnan stars in the thriller URGE.

Costarring Dustin Chatwin and Danny Masterson URGE opened in limited release on Friday, 6.3.
