Fans around the globe continue to mourn the loss of the genre-defying music icon Prince.  Over the course of four decades, the artist racked up forty top Hot 100 Hits on the Billboard charts to go along with seven Grammy wins, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar for the original score of his 1984 film PURPLE RAIN.  Prince was 57.

It’s a prequel to SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN.  As a war between rival queen sisters escalates, Eric and Sara who are members of the Huntsmen army, try to conceal their forbidden love as they battle the forces of evil.  Chris Hemsworth returns for the fantasy adventure THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR.

Costarring Jessica Chastain, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt, THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR opened Friday, 4.22.16.

Thursday, 4.21.16

LIFETIME, developing a dramatic anthology series based on the works of William Shakespeare.  Titled A MIDSUMMER’S NIGHTMARE, the show is described as an adaptation of the Bard’s plays that are turned into contemporary horror mysteries.  Each season will take on a different play, the first of which based on A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM.

It’s the untold true story behind the 1970 meeting between the King of Rock n’ Roll, played by Michael Shannon, and the most powerful man in the free world.  The revealing yet humorous moment in the Oval Office has since been forever immortalized as the most requested photograph in the National Archives.  Kevin Spacey plays the President in the comedy ELVIS AND NIXON.

Wednesday, 4.20.16

Naomi Watts, signed on to star in a new psychological thriller series for Netflix.  Titled GYPSY, the show will follow a therapist who forms close and questionable relationships with the people in her patients’ lives.  FIFTY SHADES OF GREY’s Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the first two episodes of the show, which is scheduled to debut sometime next year.

An American businessman is sent to Saudi Arabia to close what he hopes will be the deal of a lifetime by selling a unique device. Baffled by local customs and stymied by an opaque bureaucracy, he eventually finds his footing with the help of a wise-cracking taxi driver and a beautiful Saudi doctor.  Tom Hanks stars in the dramedy A HOLOGRAM FOR THE KING.

Tuesday, 4.19.16

It’s a new BBC series based on John Le Carré’s novel that follows former soldier Jonathan Pine, played by Tom Hiddleston, who is recruited by British Intelligence to infiltrate the inner circle of a dangerous businessman.  Hugh Laurie plays that villain in the drama THE NIGHT MANAGER.

THE NIGHT MANAGER premiered Tuesday, 4.19, on AMC.

DVD Tuesday – Winner of three Oscars and out today on BluRay and DVD, frontiersman Hugh Glass fights for survival in the 1820’s wilderness after he’s mauled by a bear and left for dead.  Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Actor for his role in THE REVENANT.

Also came out Tuesday, 4.19 – Maggie Smith stars in the dramedy THE LADY IN THE VAN.

Monday, 4.18.16

The actor wowed audiences with his portrayal of lawyer Johnnie Cochran in the FX miniseries THE PEOPLE VERSUS O-J SIMPSON, and now Courtney B. Vance is joining the cast of Universal’s upcoming reboot of THE MUMMY.  Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis were already set to star in the film, which is expected to bow in June of 2017.

Following a botched heist, a murderous crime boss hunts down the seductive thief named Karen who bungled the plans.  To get back in his good graces, Karen recruits her former lover to steal a load of rare gems, leading to a deceptive showdown between everyone involved.  Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Bruce Willis star in the action flick PRECIOUS CARGO.
