Friday, 12.23.16

It’s Wes Anderson’s first movie since 2014’s Oscar-winning GRAND BUDAPESST HOTEL, and now Fox Searchlight has picked up the rights to ISLE OF DOGS.  The animated project already has an impressive voice cast that includes Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston, Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray.  The film, due out in 2018, will follow a young boy’s odyssey to find his dog.

Set in the seventeenth century, a couple of Catholic missionaries, played by Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver, face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor.  Director Martin Scorsese WHO also co-wrote the screenplay says he felt a personal connection to the material in the drama SILENCE.

Costarring Liam Neeson, SILENCE opens in limited release today.

Thursday, 12.22.16

ABC, teaming up with Snapchat to produce original shows for the popular mobile app.  Under the new agreement, the alphabet network will roll out multiple scripted and unscripted programs for the social media platform.  The first planned presentation will be a companion to The Bachelor titled WATCH PARTY and will debut on Snapchat January third.

It’s the riveting true story behind the events that led up to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath, which included the city-wide manhunt to track down the terrorists WHO WERE behind it.  Mark Wahlberg stars as Boston Police Sargent Tommy Saunders in the dramatic thriller PATRIOTS DAY.

Wednesday, 12.21.16

It’s been more than fifty years since he costarred in the original, and now Dick Van Dyke is set to join the sequel to MARRY POPPINS.  Titled MARY POPPINS RETURNS, the musical will feature Emily Blunt taking over the title role along with Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury and Lin-Manuel Miranda in supporting roles.  The film, already slated for release on Christmas of 2018.

They’re a couple of space explorers, in a deep sleep with thousands of others during a 120-year voyage to a distant planet.  But after a malfunction, Jim and Aurora wake up ninety years early finding themselves stranded alone in space. Then they begin to figure out why.  Chris Pratt stars in the sci-fi adventure PASSENGERS.

Costarring Jennifer Lawrence, PASSENGERS opens today.

Tuesday, 12.20.16

The hit dramedy just wrapped up its seventh season on Sunday and now SHAMELESS has been renewed for season number eight.  The renewal follows a contract dispute over equal pay with series star Emmy Rossum, which was reportedly settled last week.  Production is expected to crank up in the new year, but thus far Showtime is yet to announce a premiere date.

william-h-macy-says-emmy-rossum-deserves-equal-payDVD Tuesday – Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the man who leaked thousands of classified documents about the NSA’s questionable surveillance techniques in the biographical drama SNOWDEN, out today on BluRay and DVD.  And Tom Hanks stars as pilot Chesley Sullenberger, who landed his disabled plane on the Hudson River in the fact-based drama SULLY.

Also out today – Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt head up the rebooted western adventure THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN.
