Unlike the surplus of discords du jour, which happen nearly daily on Twitter, some celebrity vendettas run deep, requiring more of an apology than 140 characters or less can provide.
One such rift is the focal point of Ryan Murphy’s new FX project airing Sunday, Feud: Bette and Joan, which delves into the friction between the Hollywood stars Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) and Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange).
As you can see below, the leads of the series premiering on March 5 aren’t the only two to have bad blood.

Let’s start with the originals.
The wedge between the stars were legendarily hammered into place on the set of the 1962 film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Starting with a competition for roles — both wanted the lead of Baby Jane Hudson — the dispute became the stuff of Hollywood lore. Crawford reportedly making Davis’ love interest, Franchot Tone, her second husband certainly couldn’t have helped matters.
In a piece for Vanity Fair published in 2001, producer William Frye wrote that Crawford’s on and offset antics drove Davis “crazy.”
