The ultimate CW show is back.
Riverdale, the TV adaption of Archie Comics, returns to primetime at eight tonight. Riverdale follows in the footsteps of Pretty Little Liars as the latest in the long-lasting and ever-entertaining genre of “sexy teens solving mysteries.”
In their press junkets for the second season, the cast is pitching the second season as Riverdale on a whole new level.
“It’s almost like a completely different show,” says KJ Apa during the Riverdale Entertainment Weekly Cover shoot. “So much more subversive, so much more dramatic and intense.”
The show has always been maple syrup heavy and noir-light; the most obvious equivalency would be a Twin Peaks aesthetic with the melodramatic stakes of Gossip Girl. But the show is cashing in on the popularity of its actors and the gif-able, on-the-nose dialogue.
The show is posting on Instagram and Twitter constantly (with 2.2 million and 599,100 followers respectively) and bought commercial airtime on both network television and social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.
